## Caption

This was day was such a great one for me, although I don't know if my family would agree.

I stumbled across this place in New Mexico on my way to California last August. I'd been on the road for about 7 hours and still needed to go 5 more before I made it to my Airbnb in Arizona.

I was itching to stretch my legs from being in the car for so long when I saw a sign that said "Fire and Ice Cave, next exit". So that's exactly what I did without telling anyone I was making a detour.

I pulled off the highway to spend the next two hours hiking up to Bandera Volcano, which erupted 10,000 years ago. This was the first volcano that I ever hiked to see.

Then I proceeded down to the Ice cave, located in one of Bandera's collapsed lava tubes where the temperature has never naturally gone over 31°. The ice below has been down there for about 3,400 years slowly adding more and more ice.

This was such an amazing adventure for me, although I didn't realize I spent those two hours with no service (no wonder my boyfriend and family were so worried), I was out there hiking and discovering a beautiful place.
