Over the weekend the Idaho National Guard Aviation Group received a call from the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center for a hoist rescue of a hiker with a broken hip in the back-country near Sun Valley, Idaho. Two hikers came across the patient and luckily had a Garmin with GPS on them. They remained with the patient while Custer County Search and Rescue and the Idaho Army National Guard AVN Group coordinated the rescue.
 
The full crew found the patient and they were able to land in a suitable area nearby. The medic and a crew chief were able to stabilize and package the patient with a pelvic binder and transport the patient to the helicopter. The patient was loaded for further care and transport to the Sun Valley Airport. Sgt. 1st Class Jared Gilstad administered an IV to facilitate pain management as soon as possible after patient transfer.
 
Aircrew departed the search and transferred the patient to EMS at the Sun Valley Airport to be transported to a local hospital. Great work by the Custer County Search and Rescue, the Idaho National Guard rescue crew and the two civilian hikers for their crucial help!
