March 31st is an upsetting day at the Sacramento History Museum. Alex’s employment contract has concluded and his visa is expiring very soon and he will be returning to home in Belgium. Alex has been with us since the beginning of October 2024. Long time viewers will remember his internship with us from February to September 2022. Alex has helped our education staff with leading school programs, helped plan special events, starred in videos on social media, and recreated a new SacTown History Quest scavenger hunt, and has been apprenticing in the print shop with Jared. In this video, Alex says goodbye to the Sacramento History Museum while letterpress printing a phrase in large wood type. “ALEX OUT!” was typeset with 30 line pica (5 inches) French Clarendon wood type. This type was made in the late 1880s by the Hamilton Wood Type Company. This was printed with black rubber base ink using our Washington hand press.
