#SaturdayStorytime - whatever it takes!
Back in late 2018 I went and competed on an all star squad at the OG strengthindepthuk . back then the teams at this event were huge, like 12 people. I think you had to have a certain number of age group athletes per team and men/women, so it was a true mish mash. Sometimes you competed all together, sometimes you divide and conquer. It was a huge community event and One of the most fun formats I’ve ever done. this story though isn’t about the comp, but about the strings I had to pull to get there 😬.
WIT fitness put together the team and I got asked to take part. It was about 3 months notice before the comp. I was in my last year of chiro college at the time and doing clinic rotations all year. we were allowed to take time off as long as we were hitting all out or required clinic numbers so I wasn’t worried about the trip. It was gonna be about week total: a quick activation in London, off to Bath for the comp and straight home.
The complicating factor is that my clinic midterm exam was scheduled for that week. I like to think anything is possible with 3 months notice, and I did a little homework and found out that a student was allowed to write their clinic midterm remotely a few years before under extraordinary circumstances. Perfect!
I checked with the school and clinic admin staff asking for consideration, referring to the precedent and maybe stretching the truth about how important the comp was. I was sent back a reply saying it was probably not possible because I would need to find an exam facility that satisfied a long list of criteria they gave. That’s not a no.
I forwarded the email to the team at WIT and okeefmr and they were able to find a university facility willing to proctor the exam for me same day. I get the feeling the long list was mostly meant to make me give up, because admin didn’t seem very excited when I happily got back to them with an option. A deals a deal.
So off to London! The morning of our activation I took off to Erie to exam in London the same time as my classmates (smashed it) and was back in time for photos.
The hustle pays off 😉. I miss school.
