Maury Gostfrand, Executive Vice President at The Montag Group, explains the approach taken when evaluating the next step for Shams Charania. He notes that, as part of representing a client at the highest level, it is important to speak directly with leadership at the most relevant organizations, particularly when the platform aligns with the client’s strengths and pace.

Gostfrand describes @espn as a natural fit for Shams given ESPN’s position as a major @NBA rights partner and its constant demand for news coverage. With Shams reporting news around the clock, the opportunity matched both the expectations of the audience and the operational rhythm of the network.

Before making any decisions, the team reached out to ESPN to understand their perspective and level of interest. Gostfrand shares that ESPN responded with strong interest, the process moved quickly, and the deal was successfully completed. He adds that Shams has performed exceptionally well since joining ESPN.
