Smear animation is one of those motion design tricks that looks complex — but once you know the setup, it takes less than a minute.

Instead of animating motion blur manually, you let “CC Smear + Echo” do the heavy lifting — creating that smooth, stretchy animation instantly.

Here’s the exact workflow:

① Create two elements
↳ A ball
↳ A circle (this will act as your smear)

② Animate the ball’s Position
This becomes the motion driver for the entire effect

③ Apply “CC Smear” to the circle layer
Then parent the “To”property to the ball’s Position

④ Adjust Reach & Radius
Fine-tune until the motion feels natural and smooth

Now here’s the part most people skip 👇

Add “Echo” directly on the ball for an even smoother smear effect:

⏱️ Echo Time: 0.004
🔁 Echoes: 15
💡 Starting Intensity: 1.00
📉 Decay: 0.93
⚙️ Operator: Maximum

This combination creates that buttery-smooth smear animation without complicated setups or plugins.

Simple setup. Clean result. Professional motion.

Try this on your next animation — you’ll probably start using it everywhere.
