From Aaryn: “In my portfolio, I often used chiaroscuro as a primary technique to create a more dramatic look, as commonly used in the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Like in its original use, this technique emphasizes emotional drama, which I used to exaggerate feelings of suffocation. My portfolio focuses on the juxtaposition in the power struggle of the performer and the viewer. Dramatic lighting, similar to stage lights, accentuates the overwhelming expectation to perform and produce by observers.”
