It feels like all the information out there about mono/di twins past 37 weeks focuses on one thing: what could go wrong.

Placental failure.
Shared resources.
The risks of “waiting too long.”

And those risks matter.
They deserve attention.

But I keep coming back to the question, if the primary concern is the placenta and you’re being monitored closely every few days, why is the conversation so heavily weighted toward ending the pregnancy instead of supporting it to continue if everything and everyone is still thriving?

Because there’s another side that doesn’t get talked about enough: what happens when babies stay in longer?

At 36 weeks → more lung development
At 37 weeks → stronger feeding + coordination
At 38 weeks → continued brain growth
At 39 weeks → even more neurological development

Every week matters.
Every day matters.
Especially for twins.

But here’s the part I’m only now (on my fourth pregnancy) able to fully understand and articulate…

It’s not just about surrendering.

Yes, I believe surrender is essential in labor.
For the body to open.
For the babies to descend.
For those pushes to actually work.

But I can’t truly surrender until I feel safe.

Safe in my environment.
Safe in my body.
Safe in the people around me.

For me, that looks like
• being at home
• resting in the dark
• cuddling my kids
• Brit scratching my back
• warm showers whenever I want

Quiet. Familiarity. Calm.

That’s what allows my body to soften.
That’s what allows labor to begin.

So this isn’t just about waiting. It’s about creating the conditions where my body feels safe enough to let go while also giving these babies the space to come when we’re all ready.

Because pregnancy, especially with twins, isn’t one-size-fits-all.

And neither is the timeline.
