Two Australian states have made public transport free in an effort to encourage people to leave their cars at home.⁣

In Victoria, travel on trains, trams and buses is free throughout April. In Tasmania, commuters can use buses, coaches and ferries free of charge until the end of June.⁣

Tasmania’s transport minister also announced that school buses which normally charge a fare will now be free as well.⁣
