Saturday is the International Day for Mine Awareness.

Every day, landmines kill and maim people — often long after conflicts end. In over 60 countries and territories, these hidden hazards remain a deadly threat.

“As conflicts multiply and military spending skyrockets, these dangers are deepening,” said #UnitedNations Secretary-General antonioguterres.

“We must eradicate the threat posed by these weapons so all people, everywhere, can live in safety and with hope.”

Around the world, the UN Mine Action Service (UNMAS) works to protect people from landmines, including through educational outreach, while also supporting victims.

Mine action allows those #ServingForPeace with unpeacekeeping to carry out their work, humanitarians to deliver assistance, and local communities to live without the constant fear of explosive hazards.
