If you’ve worked in UX for a while, you’ve probably noticed: our work thrives on patterns. Familiar interfaces. Predictable flows. Similarity is what makes experiences feel intuitive — and it’s what improves conversion rates. It’s always been the common ground between business and UX.

But I think many of us designers have also become similar to each other.

Most of us have developed skills and perspectives outside of UX. We just rarely bring them into our day-to-day work.

Similar interfaces are easy for AI to replicate. And I wonder — are similar people easier to replace too?

I’m not saying we should reinvent design patterns on every project. That’s not the point. What I’m asking is: how do you differentiate yourself — as a designer, and as a human being?

Maybe the answer is already in your imperfections and skills developed outside your work.
