This post is about the future of UX. I’ll mention AI — so if you’re tired of hearing about it, don’t stop reading 😉 because this one’s a little different.
Over the last 3 weeks, I’ve been deep in AI learning mode.

In the meantime, I joined a few AI webinars designed specifically for designers.
One thing stood out: the way we, as designers, are approaching the change that’s happening right now.

How we observe and react to a rapidly shifting UX world is crucial to our future success. We need to be more aware of our emotions and see the bigger picture — both as individuals and as a discipline.

UX has always been about solving problems. We learned a specific way of working and got comfortable with it. Many of us feel like someone is trying to ruin our beloved discipline — but in my view, someone just opened a wide and beautiful gate, one that lets us make the world a better place through better experiences.

About 2 years ago, I said that most companies have low UX maturity — and that, because of it, UX hadn’t even really started yet. Not much has changed.

But because design, like many other disciplines, is becoming increasingly democratized, there’s a real chance that the UX maturity of many teams and companies will soon grow.

Time will tell. But I strongly believe we’re standing at the edge of something significant.
It won’t happen on its own. We, designers, need to make it happen — and that means learning how to design with AI.
