Most lenders don't take the time to understand what makes each farm different. That's a problem.

Our COO Ryan Anderson recently joined a panel in San Francisco to talk about Old Salt Co-op, a longtime Steward borrower and collective of Montana ranchers building a regenerative supply chain for their local food economy.

"Finance and investors tend to underappreciate the diversity of every single farm operation and the need to understand the unique circumstances of that operation, that piece of land, and the farmer that's working that land."

Since partnering with Steward, Old Salt has built a USDA-inspected processing facility, a butcher shop, and two restaurants in Helena. All while keeping their founding ranches rooted in regenerative practices.

When financing actually fits the operation, good things follow.
