The Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s House is funded through a Bureau of Justice (BJA) Assistance grant, which also supports MCSO’s Comprehensive Opioid, Stimulant, and Substance Use Program (COSSUP).  This program was established to help address a gap in services for residents leaving the detention center, particularly those who requested substance use treatment but were placed on waitlists and often released without receiving the support they needed. Through this initiative, eligible residents can begin receiving support while still in custody and continue that support after release.
