3 years after the release of the live-action 'The Little Mermaid,' Halle Bailey is reflecting on what she learnt from the racism she endured while starring as the beloved Disney princess.

While sitting down with The Independent, Halle shared how the backlash taught her how to listen to herself and "block ou the noise."

“It was actually freeing to be in the middle of this conversation where so many different opinions were coming in, and they were so opposite from one another,” Halle explained to the outlet. “I felt like I was watching myself inside a cup, seeing how people react to it.”

Bailey also credits being in the industry since she was young with helping her remain grounded and realize "none of this is real."

She also shared how grateful she was to have the support from Zendaya, Ariana Grande, and fellow live-action Disney princess actress Rachel Zegler. 

"At the end of the day, we are young women... we’re self-conscious... we’re insecure. I’m insecure at times, and sometimes the opinions of people can muddy your own thoughts. So it’s special to have a community who’s there to say, ‘You’re amazing. We’re here for you.’”

But although Halle experienced intense racism taking on a traditionally white role, today she looks back at the experience with more highs than lows saying how playing Ariel was "very impactful" to the younger version of herself AND her son Halo.

"Whenever he sees a mermaid, he goes ‘Mommy, mommy!’”
