My 91 yr old dad, Roger, fell while carrying a 40lb bucket of maple syrup sap. The fall ripped off his patellar tendon making walking impossible.  Surgery reattached it.

That was a week ago. Now he’s back to gardening.

That’s Ikigai

For those of you who read my #BlueZonesKitchen cookbooks, you’ll recognize Roger.  He joins me on all of my research trips and tests all the recipes. Since he grew up on a farm in the Midwest, I reasoned—correctly—that if he doesn’t like the recipe, most of America won’t either.

The good news, doctors say that he’ll be able to kneel and plant his garden my the end of May.
