On this World Health Day, we’re standing #TogetherForHealth and standing with science 🔬🧫

At your Toronto Zoo, and as a global leader in wildlife and conservation science, science drives everything we do. We are committed to advancing knowledge that protects species, supports ecosystems, and benefits communities both here at home and around the world.

At the core of this work is our Wildlife Health & Science Centre, where experts in veterinary medicine, animal welfare, reproductive science, nutrition, and conservation biology work together to better understand and protect wildlife and the 3,000+ ambassador animals in our care. From diagnosing and treating animals to studying emerging diseases and supporting field conservation programs, our teams are helping shape the future of wildlife health.

Our nutritional science program plays a critical role in animal well-being, helping develop specialized, evidence-based diets that support everything from growth and reproduction to long-term health. These insights not only improve care for animals at your Zoo, but also contribute to global knowledge that can be applied to wild populations and other conservation programs.

For us, collaboration is key. By working with scientists, conservation partners, Indigenous communities, and organizations across the globe, we accelerate research and share data that leads to stronger, more informed decisions for wildlife and habitat protection.

This work is also guided by the One Health approach, recognizing that the health of people, animals, plants, and the environment are all interconnected. By protecting wildlife health and biodiversity, we are also helping to safeguard human health and the resilience of our planet.

Science gives us the tools to act, adapt, and make a difference everyday. Together, we are proud to be building a healthier future for all. #ScienceMatters
