For years, Suga explained it as a shortened version of “shooting guard,” keeping things simple. But during a recent appearance on WIRED (wired)’s autocomplete interview, he revealed that it actually traces back to UFC fighter Sean O’Malley, whose nickname “Suga” was inspired by boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard 🥊

According to Yoongi, Bang Sihyuk - a well-known boxing fan - suggested the name himself, saying it suited his precise, technical rap style. The reason we’re only hearing this now? “It was too annoying to explain,” he admitted.
