#PressPlay: This week on #TSRInvestigates, we sit down with the family of #RileyDeArmas, a 13-year-old girl whose life was cut short during an after-school confrontation in Houston. We examine the disturbing video of the incident, the 10-year-old suspect’s claim of self-defense, and why her family says the authorities are failing them.

Riley’s mother, Ashley Dearmas, found out her daughter was dead through a social media post — after spending hours searching hospitals and filing a missing persons report. Riley was fatally stabbed in the chest by a 10-year-old boy during an after-school altercation that her family says she had nothing to do with. The boy claimed self-defense and has not been charged.

Riley’s case is one of three deadly bullying incidents The Shade Room is covering — including 12-year-old Jada West of Villa Rica, Georgia who died after a school bus fight, and 12-year-old Khimberly Zavaleta of Los Angeles, who was struck with a metal water bottle defending her sister from bullies. @jus2ice speaks with Riley’s mother and aunt, Jada West’s family attorney, and a licensed clinical mental health counselor about the growing bullying crisis facing children across America.
