While UC Berkeley students were enjoying spring recess, Cal women’s basketball remained locked in on the hard court as the team continued its postseason run in the Women’s Basketball Invitational Tournament. In the W.B.I.T. quarterfinals matchup, the Bears fell to a strong Columbia team in a contest that went down to the wire.

In the physical match, the Bears battled back from an early deficit to keep the game close and eventually took the lead late in the fourth quarter, but Columbia’s aggressiveness proved to be too much for Cal.

“I don’t think we were the aggressor. I think we let things happen to us today … instead of making things happen,” said Cal head coach Charmin Smith in the postgame press conference. “I’m proud of our resilience. We could have faded earlier in the game but we battled back to have a lead with a few minutes remaining and just couldn’t hold on.”
