Eboni K. Williams is going viral after forcefully dismissing a case brought by a Tennessee father who tried to sue his own son for the cost of conversion therapy on a recent episode of ‘Equal Justice with Judge Eboni K. Williams’.

Gregory Talbert had spent $6,000 sending his son Michael to a 3-month-long conversion therapy program after discovering he was gay, and later attempted to recover the money in court when Michael stopped going to the facility, citing abuse and fear.

In the now widely-shared clip, Judge Williams didn’t hold back, accusing the father of “gaslighting” his son and calling the situation “manipulative” and “cruel.”

Michael testified that the program told him he was “cursed” and “going to hell,” and said he only agreed to attend out of fear of being disowned and kicked out of his family’s house. Michael recalled that after ditching the program due to treatment from staff, he spent time with an affirming friend at their house, where he described finally feeling safe and free for the first time.

Williams ultimately dismissed the case in full, delivering an emotional message directly to Michael, saying, “Young man, you are not cursed. You are as loved and as worthy, Michael, as your father, your mother, and everyone else who gets the privilege to reside on this earth, young man. I don’t care what your daddy says. I don’t care what some stupid conversion therapy says, which is nothing but a bunch of hoopla and a scam and a money grab for young, vulnerable men like yourself. I see you. You are valuable, and Michael, you are perfect. You are perfect in the eyes of God.”

Williams also made it clear that unconditional love, instead of coercion or punishment, is what defines a parent, a moment that struck a chord with millions online.
