My Italian-American husband showed me how they actually make marinara from scratch… and it’s way simpler than you think.

What you need:
cherry tomatoes
garlic
basil
olive oil
salt + pepper
parmigiano reggiano
pasta water + pasta�(optional: calabrian chilis)

How to make it:
Cook pasta ¾ of the way (save some pasta water)
Heat pan + add olive oil, tomatoes, whole garlic
Add salt, pepper (+ chilis if using)
Let tomatoes soften, then gently crush
Add pasta + splash of pasta water and basil
Finish with fresh parm and mix up
