I know I am disruptive. I know I’m not everyone’s cup of tea.

I advocate for better fertility care because (in my opinion) current fertility care is not personalized, patient-oriented or empowering. Fertility MDs in respectable hospitals claim to “not believe in reproductive immunology” (FYI - it’s a science - not the boogie man). Patients in top clinics are left to wait in waiting rooms (or pant-less in stirrups) for hours. Communication is on a “need-to-know basis” (and, most of the time it is very much needed to know).

My stance is often dismissed as “disrespectful” or “ungrateful” or (worst of all) “uninformed.”

I’m none of the above 👆🏻.

I have the utmost respect for medicine, science and MDs.

But, when battling infertility, you’re supposed to always “be grateful” for any and all care that you receive (even if that care isn’t tailored to you or your needs). And, when dealing with infertility - there’s an expectation that you just do what you’re told. And, as a result, patients tip toe through cycles not wanting to ask questions or make suggestions. They ration, “I’ll just get through this and have my baby and then I’ll never have to think about this experience again.”

No. Not good enough. Your fertility experience is imprinted in your psyche. No one should “get through” the conception of their family.

Rather, in my experience, the patients who are at clinics and have MDs who LISTEN to them (and who address their concerns, and embrace new ideas and treatments) are typically the same patients who have a positive experience (and, more often than not, a positive outcome).

You deserve better.

No one wins when you accept “good enough” for yourself or for your family. Better care is unique to the patient receiving the care. Better care takes the most recent research into consideration. Better care keeps the patient informed and top of mind. Better care doesn’t fear monger.

Better care already exists - You just need to demand it. And I’m here to hold your hand through it. #tryingtobepositive #fertilityjourney
