POV: “There are no dark Asians.”
Let me introduce you to my dad. 🤍

Happy late birthday in heaven, Dad. 🕊️
You were dark-skinned, proud, and beautiful — and so are millions of Asians around the world.

There’s a common misconception that Asians are only light-skinned. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Southeast Asia — including Cambodia — has an incredibly wide range of skin tones, from light to deep brown. This isn’t new, and it isn’t accidental.

Cambodians are indigenous to Southeast Asia, a region shaped by tropical climate, migration, trade routes, and centuries of history. Our skin tones reflect where we come from — the land, the sun, and generations before us. Dark skin has always existed in Asian communities, long before Western beauty standards tried to tell a different story.

Colorism — not culture — is what erased that truth.

So today, I honor my dad.
And I honor the diversity within Asian identity that doesn’t get talked about enough.

Dark Asians exist.
We always have.
And we are worthy — exactly as we are. All colors and all shapes and sizes 🤎✨
