Something I don’t talk about often is that a few Years ago, someone in the Deaf community criticized a video I made in ASL, saying I was doing it for clout and didn’t belong. My brother and others defended me, but honestly? I didn’t feel bad about what she said—I felt bad that maybe my ASL wasn’t good enough. 

After that, I stopped mentioning it in my content.

But here’s my truth: I grew up IN the Deaf community. My brother is Deaf, and because my parents didn’t know English or sign, I became the interpreter between them from a young age. Being the middleman was exhausting—they’d both get frustrated with me when I was just relaying what each other said. 

I even lived with Deaf family who became like godparents to me and helped refine my signing.

My ASL isn’t perfect, but it was born out of necessity, love, and survival—bridging two worlds so my family could communicate.
Now that my brother and I aren’t around each other as much, I don’t get to practice like I should. But let me be clear: I don’t care what anyone says. My entire life has been surrounded by Deaf culture and community. It is a part of me and who I am. That’s my story.
