The Tesla Optimus (also known as the Tesla Bot) is a real-world, general-purpose humanoid robot designed to perform tasks that are unsafe, repetitive, or boring for humans. The project was announced in 2021 by CEO Elon Musk, who has made ambitious claims about its potential to one day eliminate all jobs and become the company’s most significant product. 

Key features and developments include:

Design and Specs: The robot stands 5 feet 8 inches (173 cm) tall, weighs 125 lb (57 kg), and can carry up to 45 pounds while walking at 5 mph. It features advanced hands with 11 degrees of freedom and tactile sensing, allowing for delicate object manipulation.

Technology: Optimus is powered by the same AI system, including neural networks and computer vision, that Tesla uses for its autonomous vehicles. The robots are trained using a library of natural motion references captured from human actions.
