FLIGHTS:
We opened the AAdvantage Aviator Red card when the offer was 60k miles for one purchase + 15k for adding an authorized user ($99 fee). Super easy win.

Redemption #1:
Booked a Japan Airlines Premium Economy seat via AA for 50k miles + $5.60. Tons of economy seats toTokyo from major U.S. cities for 35k miles.

Redemption #2:
Chase often runs 30% transfer bonuses to Aeroplan. I regularly see direct flights to Tokyo from both coasts for 40–50k miles + (~$70). Less miles if you transfer during a bonus.

We also used our chase URs to transfer to Hyatt where we booked 3 nights in Osaka at the Hyatt Caption Hotel for 8,000 points per night. 

Before the points police come for me: yes, business class gives better value, but it does take more miles and planning. We booked one way in biz a year out and it was totally worth it. But for people with limited miles, economy works.
