VINEYARD ICON – Legacy Through Story Telling Award 🏆

Dawn Porter is one of the most important documentary filmmakers of our time. As the founder of Trilogy Films, she’s built a career telling stories that shift culture and preserve legacy, from John Lewis: Good Trouble to Trapped, The Lady Bird Diaries, and her latest, Luther: Never Too Much. Her work has premiered on cnn, netflix, hbo, and pbs, and earned her honors from Sundance, the NAACP, the Peabody Awards, and most recently, the National Humanities Medal from President Biden.

Dawn first came to the Vineyard in 1998 as a newlywed. Since then, she’s made it a second home, drawn to its natural beauty, rich Black history, and artistic soul. For her, being a Vineyard ICON is about honoring the people who make this island feel like a sanctuary and protecting that magic for the next generation.

Her message to future icons: We are all temporary caretakers. Protect the beauty, don’t change what’s not broken.
