As we approach Georgie’s anniversary, I’ve been thinking about how heavy the anticipation of certain dates can be. How grief has a way of living in the quiet lead up. And how for so many of us, there are dates and times marked in our calendars that feel impossible to carry.

I do what I always do. I scroll endlessly (and everyday) through the photos and snapshots of a life that was so full, so vibrant, so loved. Adventures we took, moments we didn’t know would become sacred. And I wish with my whole being that there were more pictures to take, more places to see with him. More time with Georgie. What I wouldn’t give for more time with him…

What I’m most proud of is how deeply he was loved and how much of the world he got to see. From the beginning, Julian and I said to each other that holidays wouldn’t be about gifts, but about adventure. But really, it was about time. Time with each other. And we did just that. We really did. 

So now, when the memories pop up, when the dates surface uninvited, I remind myself that we gave our children the gift of time, of presence, of love. And for that, I’m endlessly grateful.

If you’re someone holding a hard date, a weighty anniversary, a moment you wish you didn’t have to face…I see you. May that date and moment greet you with love and a gentle reminder how lucky to have had time with those you love so very much. How life is forever changed because of that love.
