Last night after graduation I looked up and saw four palm trees swaying gently above me. Four.

And just like that, it felt like us. All four of us.

As the three of us keep growing, I still feel Georgie beside us. Forever 9. It’s hard to wrap my head around, especially as I watch Lily rise into the next chapter. Graduation was beautiful… and impossibly hard.

There were moments when my heart ached in ways I can’t explain. When the tears came without asking, and my body started to tremble. But somehow…because this community is made of something sacred and beautiful, there was always someone there. Holding my hand. Sitting beside me. Knowing without words.

To the friend who followed me into the bathroom, leaving her own celebration to be with me in my moment of breaking—thank you. You held my hand, sat with me in silence, and just knew. To my best friend and her beautiful family…who made me laugh in the toughest moments. That’s what love looks like.

It was a hard day. An impossible day. And yet I’m proud of Lily and me. For catching each other when the heaviness crept in. And when the words of the song were too much, we caught eyes and smiled at the craziness of it all. For our little hugs and secret hand squeezes, for our car talk and our Grace box… and yes, even our F-you box, filled with love and righteous fire. We certainly used them both yesterday.

We’re learning how to use our voices when something hurts. Learning that not everyone will love with the same reciprocity and how to let go with grace.

Tough cookies, I’d say.
But soft in the center.
