It’s been an honor to serve our community alongside Mayor Marlin, the dedicated city staff, local government units, and community organizations. We’re grateful to everyone for your collaboration and shared commitment to Urbana.

Mayor-elect DeShawn Williams will officially be sworn in on May 5, 2025, during the City Council meeting.

Highlights include:
🔶 Partnered with the NAACP Champaign County to create the 10 Principles of Community Policing and began developing an alternative response model.
🔶 Improved infrastructure and road safety by increasing accessibility and connectivity — including constructing the Green Street Corridor, improving roads, sidewalks, and ramps, and implementing measures to discourage speeding.
🔶 Navigated the pandemic by minimizing the spread of COVID-19, providing outdoor spaces, supporting local healthcare systems, and distributing rent, utility, and food assistance.
🔶 Allocated ARPA funds to 25 organizations, creating lasting impact through projects like the Health and Wellness Center, Tiger Academy, Sola Gratia Farm, and Hope Village.
🔶 Eliminated a $2.5 million structural budget deficit and built a strong financial reserve.
🔶 Modernized systems, reorganized departments, and remodeled City Hall.
🔶 Broke ground on two new fire stations to better serve the community and provide healthier working conditions for firefighters.
🔶 Launched sustainability initiatives and continued investments in programs such as Tree City USA.
🔶 Welcomed H Mart and many other new businesses to Urbana.
🔶 Partnered with Urbana School District #116 to create the Mayoral Recognition Program for Urbana High School students who demonstrate outstanding service to the community.
