This morning I had the honour of joining Steven Quinn on CBC’s Early Edition for a panel discussion on what it truly means to be a young person living in Surrey. 🎙️

We spoke about:
• Affordability 🏠 – how rising costs are shaping our decisions about education, housing, and whether we can realistically build a future in the city we grew up in.�• Transportation 🚆 – the gaps young people navigate daily, and how mobility directly impacts opportunity.�• Public safety & the extortion crisis ⚖️ – the realities our communities are facing, and the need for proactive solutions.�• Education & opportunity 🎓 – ensuring young people are not only heard, but invested in.

What stood out most was this: young people are not disengaged. We are deeply aware. We are thoughtful. We are invested in the long-term future of our city. 💭🌆

It is easy to say “youth are the future.”�But we are also the present. 

If decisions are being made about affordability, infrastructure, safety, and education, young people deserve to be in those rooms, not as an afterthought, but as contributors.

I am grateful to CBC for creating space for these conversations. Media platforms matter. When young people are given microphones, they don’t waste them. 

Surrey is growing.�Our generation is growing with it. 🌱�And we care deeply about the direction it takes.

To every young person reading this: your voice is not small. Speak up. Get involved. Ask questions. Show up. 🤍

Because cities do not change by accident.�They change when people choose to participate.
