I still vividly remember the moment where I was reading a history book about the Sikh Empire and I came across the story of Maharani Jind Kaur, and just feeling an immense sense of emotion.

The last queen of the Sikh Empire, a woman who stood fearless in the face of betrayal, exile, and British rule, yet her fire never dimmed. Reading about her made me realize that strong, powerful women have always existed; history just hasn’t given them the credit they deserve. 

It made me think about my middle name, Kaur - a name that connects me to the countless warrior queens before me, a name that reminds me of the strength that runs through our blood as South Asian women. 

Jind Kaur fought for her people, her son, and her legacy, never backing down even when the world tried to silence her. Her story is a reminder that we are not just meant to exist, we are meant to lead, to rise, and to take up space. So to every woman reading this: never let the world tell you that you are too much or not enough. You come from a lineage of queens, own it.
