Beverly Gardens Park: The City’s Emerald Necklace

Established in 1911, Beverly Gardens Park is a 1.9-mile linear expanse stretching along Santa Monica Boulevard. Designed by landscape architect Ralph D. Cornell. It features a two-mile jogging path, century-old cypress and ficus trees, specialty gardens, and the iconic Beverly Hills Sign.

The Lily Pond: A Restored Gem

Originally constructed in 1907, the Lily Pond was one of the first major features of Beverly Gardens Park, serving as an early landmark for the city. In the mid-1970s, the pond was removed and replaced with grass, though the Beverly Hills Sign remained, continuing to draw thousands of tourists each year. Recognizing its historical significance, the city restored the Lily Pond in 2014 as part of Beverly Hills’ centennial celebration.

Electric Fountain

The Electric Fountain, located on the busy corner of Santa Monica and Wilshire Boulevards in Beverly Hills, California, is the centerpiece of Beverly Gardens Park.  Illuminated by striking special effects, including a changing pattern of neon-colored lights at night, the fountain consists of two basins, with the upper basin containing a ring of varied height nozzles. The sculpture and tiles that make up the design pay homage to the founding of the City, while the top of the fountain features a statue of a Tongva, a member of a local Native American tribe, kneeling in prayer.
Erected in 1931, the fountain was designed by architect Ralph Carlin Flewelling and the sculpture at the top was designed by Robert Merrell Gage.
