3 questions to ask before spending money on another course or cert:

I see this all the time. Women about to drop stacks on a certification because they think it’ll make them more hireable.

But here’s what actually happens:

You buy the cert to feel like you’re making progress.

But you still don’t know exactly which roles to apply for.

So you’re just as stuck, except now you’re hundreds or thousands of dollars poorer and still guessing.

Before you buy that cert or course, ask yourself these 3 questions:

1. Do I know my target role yet?

If you don’t know which lane you’re pursuing, you don’t know which kind of upskilling is the most beneficial.

A Google Project Management cert won’t help you if you’re actually better suited for Customer Success or Enablement roles.

2. Is this cert actually required for the roles I want?

Most non-technical tech roles don’t require certifications. They require proof of relevant skills. Recent applied learning in that specific lane can help, of course.

If you’re spending money on credentials that hiring managers don’t care about, you’re wasting time and money.

3. Will this help me get hired or just make me feel productive?

Be honest. Are you buying this because it’s strategic, or because it feels like forward motion?

Productivity for the sake of productivity won’t get you callbacks.

Get clarity first. Then choose a role. Then do targeted upskilling. Not the other way around.

Not sure where your transferable skills make the most sense?
