1. Core Skills
 
Communication, problem solving, project execution, stakeholder management. The abilities you sharpened through real work you’ve done. 

2. Domain Expertise

This just means your industry knowledge. You understand the landscape, regulations, workflows, success metrics, and pain points in the field you currently work in.

3. Product & Process Knowledge

Tools, systems, and operational workflows you already use.  Platforms, scheduling systems, support workflows, data reporting tools, onboarding processes, etc. This is valuable knowledge and also proof that you can ramp quickly in tech environments.

4. Customer & Problem Familiarity

You know the end user. You understand their frustrations, priorities, language, and decision-making. This gives you instant credibility when a tech company serves the same audience or solves a problem you understand.

Here is why this matters for your pivot into tech as a non-technical candidate:

For non-coding jobs, tech companies care far more about your ability to understand their customers, solve real business problems, and operate in modern systems than whether you can code. 

These 4 layers help you translate your value in a way hiring managers recognize. 

When you use them correctly, you begin to see where you fit best in tech, where you have the most leverage and where you can stop sounding like a career changer and start sounding like a strategic hire.
