Finally, the new ACC/AHA cholesterol guidelines have a framework for “INTERMEDIATE RISK” patients that includes CAC scores!

🫀⚡️ the coronary calcium score (CAC): 
It’s a quick, low-radiation CT scan that detects calcium buildup in your heart arteries. 

Here’s why it matters:
→ Score of zero —> lifestyle changes are reasonable
→ Score of 100 or above? —> Your risk of an MI (myocardial infarction aka heart attack) is significantly high. Consider starting low dose aspirin and statin.

It’s a strong tool in preventive cardiology. It gives you and your doctor a real answer when everything else is unclear.
If you’re in that gray zone — ask about a CAC score. 
You deserve more than a “wait and see.” 🤍
