Women’s heart attacks don’t look the same — here’s a short breakdown why:

🎀 Women are more likely to have microvascular disease, non-obstructive coronary disease, SCAD, vasospasm, and plaque erosion — but can still present with acute MI

🎀 And their symptoms?… SOMETIMES it’s chest pain… BUT often nausea, shortness of breath, fatigue, back/shoulder-blade pain, dizziness, or just “not feeling right.”

🎀 Risk factors also hit harder:
🍬 diabetes (even though it’s more prevalent in men, we’re affected 3x more)
🚬 smoking
🤰 pregnancy-related risks: gestational HTN, preeclampsia, eclampsia, gestational DM (see my other videos on this)

🎀 Women naturally sit at lower baseline troponin levels, so using s3x-specific troponin thresholds identifies far more women with myocardial injury (tho there isn’t good clinical significance for this… yet)

🎀 Even with better detection, outcomes haven’t improved yet. Women still receive FEWER interventions and less guideline-directed therapy, and trials haven’t shown reductions in repeat MI or cardiovascular death.

🎀 Overall: the girls’ heart attacks are different — in disease pattern, symptoms and risk factors specific only to us (pregnancy + complications)
