Cybercriminals are using fake text messages to steal banking logins and personal data, and it’s working.

It’s called Smishing Triad, a massive SMS phishing network that created over 194 000 fake domains to mimic banks, courier services, and toll systems.

You’ll get messages like:
“Unpaid toll, click to pay”
“Delivery failed, verify address”
“Suspicious login, confirm identity”

Once you click, you’re taken to a cloned site that looks real. You type your info, and it goes straight to the criminals.

Researchers found this network is run by a Chinese-speaking organised crime group using cloud infrastructure and short-lived domains to stay invisible.

Victims have lost life savings within hours. Accounts drained, identities sold, and months of recovery ahead.

✅ Never click links in SMS messages
✅ Go to the official app or website instead
✅ Use an authenticator app for MFA (not SMS)
✅ Check for unknown logins
✅ If you clicked, freeze your card, change passwords, and contact your bank immediately
