Kids are taking over! They are hacking their own schools… and they’re not even breaking in… they’re logging in.
Kids as young as 7 years old are being referred for cybercrime in the UK.

The latest report from the UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) analysed 215 school-related data breaches…
And guess what?

🔐 57% of them were caused by students themselves.
🧠 Most didn’t need advanced hacking tools.
They just found weak passwords.
Or spotted login credentials written on paper.
Or got access to unlocked staff devices.

In one case, a student used a staff login to access a college system…
and viewed, changed, and deleted records of over 9,000 students and staff.
Medical info. Emergency contacts. School history. Gone.
Just like that.

Let’s be clear:
This isn’t a “hacker” problem.
It’s a digital hygiene problem.

➡️ The systems weren’t locked down.
➡️ Passwords weren’t strong.
➡️ Devices weren’t protected.

These kids didn’t break the system.
The system was already broken.

The UK is now urging schools to go back to basics:
• Better staff training
• Stronger passwords
• Audit access rights
• Protect systems from the inside out

And as parents and mentors?
We don’t need to do the extreme.
But we do need to talk to our kids about ethics, access, and what’s legal online.

Because in this generation?
Testing your skills on the school network isn’t just “a bit of fun.”
It could lead to criminal charges, and a very different future.

👀 Did you know about this rise in insider school cyber attacks?
