## Caption

Building the new extension for The Joshua Tree back in September was an amazing experience! The charity gives children with cancer, and their families a safe space to hang out together and connect. But their services are so needed, with people travelling from Manchester, they didn't have the time or money to shut down and build another building... so that's where @bbcdiysos came in, and in just 12 days, did what would have taken them 12 months to do!

We spent a lot of our time on the scaffolding, cutting and nailing the never ending battens and cladding onto the exterior walls. Once that was done, we did everything and anything from insulation to more woodworking on the beehive den, planting, good old manual labour, and for the last day I became a decorator to help cover the shortage of them on the final day! We were very proud of our diagonal mint green walls in the teen hang out space. I was painting skirting boards til the early hours on the last night and even dipped my plait in my paint somehow 🤣

And then on reveal day, seeing all the families and the charity and how much they appreciate it, makes it worth all the late nights and hard work 🫶🏻 now they have a truly amazing space for the kids and families to relax, play, and even stay overnight where it is safe, clean and they don't feel like the odd one out ❤️ if you get the chance, you should definitely volunteer at least once for DIY SOS #diysos #diyish
