🏏 CRICKET HONOURS BOARDS 🏏
Part 2 - I constructed the second board like in part 1. I tested a lot of stains and eventually picked one to match as close to the originals as possible, with the help of Chris at @osmo_uk . I needed one with a yellow-y colour to compliment the existing boards, so we went with Light Oak. I did one coat of wood wax and 4 coats of polyurethane - gloss by @rustinsltd for a super shiny finish. I had to bring them inside because it was too cold to dry outside!
As for sanding, Barry at @ebraisives did send me some replacement discs (thanks!) as he did mention some issues with older batches. These did perform better. But, I think the mesh P60 discs just have the problem of being such high friction - they really do take a lot of material off quickly - and have the smallest surface area of sticking to the sander (big mesh, big holes), that anything but flat even operation can cause them to lose stickiness. Even with some dust extraction. It might help having better extraction - the more dust that can get between the disc and the sander, the quicker it will peel off. The reason I mention flat operation is because I was tilting the sander to get the tiny edges between the boards. I think this was causing uneven pressure and reducing the sticking power. I didnt have this problem with the p80 or regular paper p60 discs, I used these to get in the grooves. As you see for the second board near the end, the speed that the mesh P60 took the finish off, you can't deny their awesome sanding power!!

Anyway, end of sanding sermon. I'm almost done so keep a look out for part 3 which I promise won't be so long this time 😂 #diyish #woodworking #woodworkingproject #crickethonours #honoursboard #sanding #ilovesanding
