crazy what having a CHOICE over our bodies and lives can look like! 

As the oldest daughter of a young single mother, I was often the “backup parent” raising my siblings like they were my children. And I saw FIRSTHAND, how the work of raising and providing for children can make a woman’s ability to secure financial stability, higher education, and career success - significantly more difficult. ESPECIALLY If the woman is young, lacking financial and other supports around her, and a single parent—and this doesn’t even include the STRESS and COST of caring for children when you can barely care for yourself. 

So I promised myself at a young age that I’d never have kids 1) before I became a lawyer, 2) unless I was so financially secure that I knew they’d never have to struggle the way I did, and 3) until I had at least a few years of therapy under my belt. 

Then I reached all of those goals (gratefully) and honestly, have been enjoying my life without such an enormous responsibility of nurturing and caring for others-something oldest daughters rarely get a break from. 

So for now, imma keep enjoying this freedom and how powerful it feels to be in control of how I live my life. I know my ancestors would be proud!
