'The Kingdom Above the Chair'

For most of his life, the artist made beautiful images for other people. Commissions. Covers. Clean edges. Framed things. Wall art. Then one day he stopped asking what would sell and started asking what had been growing inside him all along. 

The answer was not one image but an ecosystem. A whole kingdom of scales, wings, teeth, fins, cities, people, creatures and myth. The framed painting beside him is an old idea of art: finished, marketable, contained. The impossible living mass above him is the truth: creation as overflow.

My point? Real creative life is often too large to fit inside the first frame you build for it.

Imagination is not orderly. Art begins as control, but its deeper power arrives when control fails.
