But nobody talks about the transformation 😄

Data Engineer – Day 1 vs After 1 Year

Day 1:
 “SQL is just SELECT * FROM table”
After 1 year:
 5 CTEs, window functions, nested queries… still wrong result.

Day 1:
 “Data pipeline means Excel + copy paste”
After 1 year:
 Kafka → Spark → S3 → Airflow → BigQuery → Dashboard

Day 1:
 “Cloud is just storage”
After 1 year:
 IAM, VPC, cost alerts, permissions, latency… welcome to reality.

Day 1:
 “Python? Easy.”
After 1 year:
 Why is this null? Why is this list? Why is this timezone?

Day 1:
 “I’ll finish this in 30 minutes”
After 1 year:
 Debugging the same issue for 3 hours.

Day 1:
 “I want to become a Data Engineer”
After 1 year:
 “I am a Data Engineer… but at what cost 😭”

Jokes apart, this is actually growth.

Confusion → complexity → clarity → confidence.

And every real data engineer has gone through this.
