Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata are the only four cities considered as metro cities for tax purposes. 

For instance, if you look at House Rent Allowance (HRA), one of the deduction mentions :

50% of [basic salary + DA] for those living in metro cities (Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai or Chennai) or 40% of [basic salary + DA] for those living in non-metros (Refer previous post for more details). 

So, if you’re paying rent in Bangalore, you can avail tax exemption to the extent of,  least of:
1. Actual HRA
2. Only 40% (not 50%) of Basic salary because Bangalore is not a metro city.
3. Actual rent paid (-) 10% of basic salary + DA
