There are some historic buildings worth waiting to get into….this is one of them. 

📍Welcome to the William Andrews Clark Memorial Library - UCLA. 

Completed in 1926 for Copper King, William Andrews Clark Sr.’s youngest son, it is far more than a library that houses the most impressive collection of work by Oscar Wilde…it’s a sanctuary to a forbidden love. 

William Clark Jr. is best known for being the founder of the LA Philharmonic, so I expected to do a biography of a great patron of the arts, which, of course, he was. But what I discovered was a complex man who fell for an even more complex character in Harrison Post. Harrison’s life is one part mystery, one part glamorous Hollywood tale. An artist, socialite, and interior designer, he’d charm everyone from William to the upper echelon of Hollywood, but sussing out the facts from fiction is a tricky task. What IS true is that he was loved by William, and it is evident in every detail of the building that still stands on the former estate grounds. 

If you are interested in attending a lecture, using the collection for research, or learning more about the men who made this place special, I highly encourage you to do so.
