Stumbled into Jack London State Historic Park expecting a quick jaunt to a grave—left emotionally winded, spiritually sunburnt, and mildly obsessed with one of the most chaotic literary power couples in history.

Jack and Charmian London are buried beneath a mossy boulder in the hills of Glen Ellen, surrounded by the ghosts of dreams, children, and a literal burnt mansion. Yes, that Jack London—Call of the Wild, White Fang, brooding wolf-loving socialist heartthrob of the early 1900s.

Their unfinished masterpiece, Wolf House, still stands in skeletal ruin just a hike away, and honestly? It’s giving Brontë-core haunted estate.
