Welcome to my new series, where I’ll be diving headfirst into the musical history of Los Angeles.🥁🎶

From legendary venues to infamous hotels, canyon jam sessions to trashed recording studios—this is my love letter to the sounds that shaped LA… and shaped me.

Music’s been my heartbeat for as long as I can remember. My parents had The Beatles playing before I was even born. I grew up on the road with my dad’s bands, napping in his bass drum, living off PB&Js from the band’s cardboard box of food. By age five, I’d been in more bars and clubs than most people hit by graduation.

Growing up in ‘90s Seattle, musicians weren’t mythical—they were the neighbors. Literally. Members of Nevermore and Cannibal Corpse lived upstairs. I saw Prince at seven. Heard Black Sabbath at eleven. And nothing’s been the same since.

While LA is world-famous for film and television, this series is here to honor its other great export: music. From Central Avenue jazz to canyon folk to Sunset Strip glam—this city sings with stories, and I’m determined to find them all.

So come along for the ride. Music is—and always has been—about community. I’d love for you to be part of mine.
