Grateful to canvasrebel for this thoughtful feature and for the space to reflect honestly on the journey behind momentofmagicfoundation .

In this conversation, we talk about where this work really began: watching my grandparents move through long-term hospital care, witnessing how quickly someone can go from person to patient, and realizing how often joy and humanity are treated as optional in care settings. We talk about what it looks like to build an organization rooted in the belief that play, dignity, and emotional connection are not a distraction from healing, but a critical part of it.

We also dig into the less polished parts of building a nonprofit: learning as you go, pivoting in real time during difficult times, rebuilding systems while operating within them, listening deeply to families and partners, and allowing that feedback to fundamentally shape programs like Express, Create, Heal.

Thank you to CanvasRebel for the opportunity to pause and reflect on a journey that’s still unfolding. Building A Moment of Magic has required conviction, adaptability, and an unwavering belief that children deserve more than clinical care alone.
